Step 1

Purchase Your Quest

As soon as you've made a purchase you'll receive two emails - one confirming your purchase and one with your Quest Instructions! This second one will instantly give you access to the game and you can begin playing when you're ready!

The Quests work best in teams of 2 - 8 and kids under 8yrs old play for free! One purchase works for one team.

If you have more than 8 players, to keep everyone engaged we suggest breaking your group into two or more teams and playing against each other. For this you'll need to purchase 2 or more quests. For groups with 3 or more teams, contact us for group discounts.

You don't need to download or install anything on your phone, nor waste any time setting up an account or profile.

Step 2

Assemble your team!

From the Quest Instructions email you will be able to join the game whenever you're ready, and getting your team into the game with you is as simple as sharing a link with them, or just forwarding them the email. We recommend allowing an hour to complete the Romans Quest, or two hours to complete the Ghost Quest, plus any time you want for stops, breaks, and wandering off to explore!

The Quests are fun activities for people of all ages and while the Ghost Quest contains story elements describing deaths and spirits of the dead, we consider that all our quests are still family friendly.

In the Quest, all players are equal, and anyone can submit their answer when they've cracked a puzzle! Join the game with as many devices as you like.

Plan to meet in the city - the Ghost Quest starts from Stonegate and the Romans Quest starts in St Sampson's Square - both in the very heart York. Bring your smartphone and dress warmly if it's chilly out.

You'll have instant access to the Quest as soon as you purchase, and with nothing to print, you can play a Quest whenever you want. There are no set dates or start times although we recommend playing during daylight hours.

Your redemption code is valid for a full year from your purchase date, so don't worry if your plans change.

Step 3

Have fun solving clues and puzzles and completing challenges!

The Quest is completed by following a secret path through the city. You'll receive clues, directions, instructions, and hints from the game which runs in the web browser on your phone.

You make progress by solving clues and puzzles and by completing challenges. Along the way you'll discover fun facts, some history and discover the hidden gems of York!

If you find a question too hard, you can request hints. There's no penalty for taking hints - it's up to you how you choose to play the game. If you take a wrong turn the hints will also help get you back on track, and you can also skip questions if you need to.

You can go at your own pace, stopping for rests, snacks, lunch, drinks (or shopping sprees!) as you wish.

Step 4

Complete Your Quest and Claim Your Prize!

Reach the end and claim the prize!

The Quest each end at a different famous pub with an amazing history, so take a photo to mark your victory, and then relax for as long as you like with discounted food and drink for the rest of the day!

Step 5

Bragging Rights!

You now belong to the exclusive group of people who have taken on a Quest in York and triumphed!

Challenge your friends to do better than you and meet them at the end for a celebratory meal!
